Mike Tyson at Age 53 Teases His Comeback - Should He Do It?

On Mike Tyson's Instagram account he posted a clip of himself training  and wow,  he looks fast, sharp and powerful. In the video below I break down how he is getting so much power into his punches so check that out.

Right now I want to talk about this “comeback” everyone is talking about. Is he really back? If so is this the right decision? Who would he fight?

At the same time he posted on his IG about this, Evander Holyfield posted the same saying he is back and looking forward to a charity fight so all of the odds are pointing towards the two of them stepping back into the ring.

Here are my thoughts on it.

  • Would I watch this? Yes!
  • Do I want them to do it? No.
  • Is it the right thing for them to do? I really don’t think so, and the reason is, brain health.

Tyson had 58 HEAVYWEIGHT fights:

  • got knocked out 5 times.
  • he hasn't boxed for 15 years
  • he is 53 years old.
  • If you don’t think that it's insane for him to have a comeback fight, even if it is for charity, you know nothing about the boxer's brain.

People are telling me on social media “but did you see how sharp he is, he has still got it” and my response to that is, yes for a 20 second IG clip, put him in there for just 3 x 3 min rounds and it's a different story.

I retired in 2012 and I can look as good as any fighter on the bags or pads for 15 seconds, but a 3 min. round of sparring, my timing has totally gone, my condition is out the window, and I’m 35 years old.

I’ve had people telling me Tyson would KO Wilder, but if Tyson couldn't beat Danny Williams at the age of 37 how the hell does anyone think he can beat Wilder at the age of 53 is beyond me.

The same with the Real Deal Holyfield who is 4 years older than Iron Mike at the age of 57, and he had 57 fights and took some of Mike Tyson's best punches. You would have CTE if you thought that Holyfield's brain health was great.

Now to have him step back into the ring is pretty insane, I hope they don’t do it. The main reason why I don’t want to see them in the ring is that I am a huge fan of both of them. They have done so much for the legacy of boxing and I think they should leave it that way. I don’t want to see either of them being hurt anymore.
