When we teach our clients about fitness, boxing, and fat loss, we usually include a lesson about physiology that teaches them that there is never a zero change in body fat levels at any one point.
We reinforce that EVERYTHING we do is leading us down a path...And you are walking along that path and every time you do something that is aligned with what you want in your life, you are taking a step forward.
And to move the needle all we need to do is consistently take 1 little step forward.
Similarly there are bad habits, as there is no standing still on this path.
And the basic premise is you are either taking a step farther away from your goals or taking a step forward. There is no standing still. You are always moving forwards or backwards.
Your business is the same way. Think of your business (or yourself) as having a “gauge” of, for example, your professionalism.
Every interaction you have is going to move the needle to “more professional” or “less professional”. Which is really "more business" or "less business", and there is never an interaction that doesn't have an impact on your success.
We spend hours in the gym interacting with our clients. Most of the time they may not remember what we say to them, but they do remember how we make them feel.
This includes lifting them up when they're having a bad day and just getting through the door was a win to firing them up in those last 10 secs when they have nothing left to give.
Being professional is not posting selfies like this ;)
By consistently leaving your clients with a positive and professional-feeling leaving your gym, studio, or training center, they will be more likely to refer their friends and colleagues to you and be an ambassador to your culture, environment, and brand.
This doesn't happen if you are checking your watch, stretching during the session, have your hands in your pockets, arms crossed, or chatting in the corner.
The fitness industry is evolving into a recognized profession. It's up to all of us to elevate our game.
A rising tide lifts all boats. And a fitness professional is in it for the long term health of both their clients and the business they work for.
